Dehradun District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan held a review meeting at the Rishiparna Auditorium regarding the District Ganga Conservation Committee and preparations for the Ardh Kumbh Mela 2027. Issuing strict directives to the officials, he emphasized that the positive outcomes of their work must be visible not merely in presentations, but on the ground.
Key Highlights of the Meeting:
• STP and Drain Tapping: The DM directed that all Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) be operated in strict compliance with National Green Tribunal (NGT) standards. He issued a stern warning to officials—and ordered an inquiry—regarding delays in land selection for the Tapkeshwar and Arcadia zones, as well as the failure to commence work on the Camel Back STP. He also directed that the drain-tapping work along the Bindal River be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
• Solid Waste and Sanitation: Directives were issued to develop the Awas Vikas Ward in Rishikesh as a ‘Model Ward’ under the Solid Waste Management initiative. Instructions were given to strengthen the waste collection system and to monitor designated dumping zones via CCTV surveillance. A ‘Show Cause Notice’ was issued to the concerned official for failing to provide information regarding dairy waste management.
• Flood Zone Demarcation and Ardh Kumbh: The demarcation of flood zones for the Ganga, Rispana, and Asan rivers has been completed. The DM directed that the demarcation work for the remaining rivers be expedited and that all preparatory works for the Ardh Kumbh 2027 be executed in accordance with the approvals granted by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG).
Senior officials from various departments, including Chief Development Officer Abhinav Shah, were present at the meeting.
