Director General of Police (DGP) Mr. Deepam Seth today conducted a high-level review of the statewide campaign, “Operation Prahar,” at the Police Headquarters. Under this campaign, which has been underway for the past month, the police have launched a decisive strike against criminals and anti-social elements.
Key Achievements of the Campaign:
• Arrests and Preventive Action: More than 1,400 wanted criminals and those carrying bounties were arrested across the state. Action was initiated against 40 individuals under the Gangster Act and against over 130 individuals under the Goonda Act.
• Crackdown on Terror Networks and Infiltration: Suspects linked to terrorist organizations such as “Al-Badr” and the “Al-Barq Brigade” were apprehended along with illegal weapons in Udham Singh Nagar and Dehradun. Additionally, three Bangladeshi nationals residing in the state using forged documents were arrested.
• Verification and Traffic Management: Over 40,000 individuals were verified to facilitate surveillance on suspects. In cases of traffic rule violations, challans (fines) were issued for 15,000 vehicles, and 2,000 vehicles were seized.
• Cyber Security: More than 200 fraudulent social media links—used to perpetrate scams in the name of the Char Dham Yatra—were blocked.
DGP Mr. Deepam Seth clarified that this campaign would continue with even greater intensity in the future to uphold the security and law-and-order situation within the state. Several senior officials, including ADGs V. Murugesan and A.P. Anshuman, were present at the meeting.
