The police have initiated proceedings under the Goonda Act against Puneet Mittal, a builder accused of harassing residents in the city’s upscale ATS Colony. Furthermore, authorities have warned that externment proceedings will be initiated against him if he fails to provide a satisfactory response within seven days.
It is alleged by the colony residents that Builder Puneet Agarwal has been engaging in arbitrary behavior and hooliganism in the area for a considerable period. Numerous instances involving the encroachment of government land, illegal construction, and physical assault and abusive behavior towards locals have come to light. Despite this, the police have so far failed to take any concrete action. On every occasion, cases are registered under minor sections, effectively shielding the accused.
Residents reported that, recently, the accused builder physically assaulted a scientist couple residing in the colony. The assault was so severe that it resulted in the rupture of one of the victims’ eardrums. Prior to this incident, other occurrencesโsuch as the physical assault of the colony president and the intimidation of children during festive occasionsโhave also been reported.
It is further alleged that the builder frequently drives his vehicle at high speeds to frighten children and subjects residents to mental harassment by hurling verbal abuse without any provocation. Consequently, an atmosphere of fear prevails among the women, children, and elderly residents of the colony. Ishwari Prasad, a resident, stated that they have lodged complaints with the police and administrative officials on multiple occasions; however, due to the accused’s influential connections, no strict measures have been taken. On the contrary, false counter-cases are being filed against those who dare to raise their voices in protest.
The protesters have issued a warning that if strict action is not taken against the accused builder immediately, they will be compelled to intensify their agitation. The residents of the colony have demanded an impartial investigation and stringent action from the police.
