There is good news for budding sports talents. The admission process for Class 6 has commenced at the state’s three sports colleges: Maharana Pratap Sports College (Dehradun), Hari Singh Thapa Sports College (Pithoragarh), and the Girls’ Sports College (Champawat). Notably, admissions will be conducted in Champawat for the very first time. The deadline for registering for the proficiency test for all three colleges has been set for May 10, 2026.
According to Rajesh Mamgain, Principal of the Sports College, Dehradun, students at these premier residential sports schools across the state are provided with professional sports training right from the foundational level. Maharana Pratap Sports College, Dehradun, offers training facilities in a diverse range of sports disciplines, including athletics, boxing, badminton, cricket, football, judo, hockey, volleyball, shooting, gymnastics, swimming, and ice sports.
Similarly, Hari Singh Thapa Sports College, Pithoragarh, offers facilities for athletics, football, and boxing; while the Girls’ Sports College, Champawat, provides facilities for athletics, badminton, and boxing specifically for female students. Students selected for these residential sports schools will receive training under the guidance of experienced coaches, utilizing world-class facilities and modern equipment, thereby providing them with the opportunity to achieve excellence at both national and international levels.
**Eligibility Criteria for Admission**
To be eligible for admission to Class 6 at the sports colleges, an applicant must be between 11 and 13 years of age (with a date of birth falling between July 1, 2013, and July 1, 2015). It is mandatory for the applicant to be a native or permanent resident of Uttarakhand. Under the selection process, the initial screening will be conducted based on physical fitness tests, sports skills, and overall sports proficiency.
