Several amendment bills, including the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand, will be introduced during the budget session, which begins on March 9th in the summer capital, Gairsain. The Assembly Secretariat has already received four bills from the government. In addition, the annual reports of various departments and commissions will be tabled in the House.
The Uniform Civil Code, currently in effect in the state, has been amended to include new provisions. Marriages involving concealed identities will be prosecuted. Furthermore, marriages will be invalidated. An Additional Secretary-level officer can also become Registrar General.
These provisions were not previously present in the UCC. The government will table the UCC Amendment Bill in the House during the budget session. Additionally, the Uttarakhand Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) (Amendment) Bill will be introduced to encourage investment, provide flexibility in shop hours, increase shop efficiency, and provide workers with more work opportunities.
The Uttarakhand Public Trust (Amendment of Provisions) Bill will also be tabled in the House. This bill will abolish imprisonment in seven laws. The Uttarakhand Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill will be introduced.
More than 580 questions received from MLAs
The Assembly has received more than 580 questions from both ruling and opposition parties for the proposed five-day session. Departments are preparing responses to the relevant questions.
