New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday lost his temper with a section of media personnel when they questioned a possible privilege motion against him by the ruling party during the Budget session. Taking a jab at journalists, Rahul asked, “Have you been given this code word for today?” He urged the media to remain impartial in their work and maintain the dignity of their profession.
On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, Rahul Gandhi delivered a speech in the Lok Sabha in which he mentioned alleged links between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and some major industrialists. He made several allegations, which sparked considerable controversy. Initially, it was being said that the ruling party would bring a privilege motion against Rahul Gandhi. However, there is still no clarity on whether the ruling party is bringing any motion against him. Top government sources say that a privilege motion is unlikely. It was reported that the government had decided not to bring a privilege motion against Rahul Gandhi, but instead to remove certain words and lines from his speech from the parliamentary records because they were unsubstantiated.
On Thursday, February 12th, as Rahul Gandhi was walking to his car outside the Parliament complex, journalists surrounded him, seeking his reaction to a potential privilege motion against him. This clearly infuriated him, who asked, “Is ‘privilege’ the code word for today? Have you been given this word for today?” Further attacking the journalists, he said, “Yesterday the word was ‘authentication,’ today it is ‘privilege.’ You should try to do something impartial.” He added, “You are responsible people, you are media people, your responsibility is to be impartial. You are doing this country a disservice. Can’t you recognize this?”
