Hyderabad: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has issued a notice to BRS chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in the illegal phone tapping case. The notice, delivered to KCR’s residence in Nandini Nagar, summons him for questioning on Friday at 3 PM.
However, considering KCR’s age of 65, the SIT has stated that he does not need to come to the police station. He has been asked to provide details of a location within the Hyderabad city limits where he can be questioned.
The phone tapping case was registered at the Punjagutta police station on March 10, 2024, based on a complaint from an Additional Superintendent of Police of the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB). Since then, the case has seen several significant developments, with serious allegations of illegal surveillance surfacing. Four former police officers have been arrested so far in connection with the case. The SIT has already interrogated the main accused, Prabhakar Rao, in custody, reportedly obtaining crucial information. The investigation gained further momentum after the formation of another SIT headed by former DGP VC Sajjanar. Subsequently, the SIT recently questioned MLC Naveen Rao, former minister Harish Rao, BRS working president KTR, and former Rajya Sabha member Santosh Kumar. Their statements were recorded, and the entire questioning was videographed.
Sources revealed that the SIT decided to issue the notice to KCR after his name surfaced in several confessional statements.
Radhakishan Rao allegedly mentioned KCR’s role in the phone-tapping case in his confession. Bhujanga Rao also reportedly named KCR, mentioning his appointment of Prabhakar Rao.
Bhujanga Rao further stated that the senior officers involved in the case frequently visited the former Chief Minister’s official residence, Pragathi Bhavan, during that period. The SIT is expected to continue its investigation based on these confessional statements and evidence. With the issuance of a notice to KCR, the investigation has reached a crucial stage and is likely to intensify in the coming days.
