Jammu: Terming the alleged irregularities in the Ratle Hydro Power Project in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, and the alleged role of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its representative in its execution as serious, the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee has demanded a high-level independent inquiry into all aspects of the matter. The Congress has also sought a response from the BJP regarding the serious allegations and facts that have come to light.
Speaking on the serious allegations against the ruling party and its representative regarding the affairs and execution of a prestigious power project of public interest, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said that a complete independent inquiry is necessary to bring the full truth before the public.
He said that the alleged information provided by the company is very shocking and the people have the right to know the complete truth about the alleged role of the BJP and its representative, which could jeopardize this crucial project.
Approved by UPA government
This major power project was approved by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s UPA government for the greater benefit of the people of the Chenab region and the entire Jammu and Kashmir. However, the recent allegations, revelations, and obstructions and pressures exerted by the ruling party in the execution of this crucial project are a matter of serious concern, as it could hinder the timely completion of the project.
The Congress spokesperson said that in view of the revelations and allegations, including the major electoral bond issue, the Bharatiya Janata Party has many questions to answer to the people, and a high-level inquiry is necessary for this.
Construction of Ratle Hydroelectric Project
He stated that Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL), which is constructing the 850 MW Ratle Hydroelectric Project in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, had said that it might withdraw from the project if the administration fails to stop the threats and interference from local people and BJP MLA Shagun Parihar. Harpal Singh, Chief Operating Officer of the dam project at Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited, said the company alleged that it was under pressure from local BJP MLA Shagun Parihar to hire more local workers for the project, which was not feasible for the company.
