New Delhi: Lawyer Rakesh Kishore, accused of throwing a shoe at Chief Justice B.R. Gavai, faced protests from lawyers on Tuesday. When Rakesh Kishore arrived at the Karkardooma Court today, lawyers attempted to assault him.
On the morning of October 6, 2025, a lawyer named Rakesh Kishore threw a shoe at Chief Justice B.R. Gavai, but the shoe did not reach the Chief Justice. When he attempted to throw the shoe, a Delhi Police constable present in the courtroom immediately apprehended him. As the police were taking him away from the courtroom, he shouted loudly, “India will not tolerate the insult to Sanatan Dharma.” Rakesh Kishore is 71 years old. He was reportedly hurt by Chief Justice Gavai’s statement regarding Lord Vishnu. Following this incident, lawyer organizations condemned the act and also staged a protest before the Supreme Court. In this matter, Attorney General R. Venkataramani gave his consent on October 16 to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Rakesh Kishore.
Supreme Court Bar Association President Vikas Singh had sought permission to initiate contempt proceedings against Rakesh Kishore. Vikas Singh stated that the shoe-throwing incident could not be ignored and that lawyer Rakesh Kishore showed no remorse. However, the Supreme Court refused to issue a contempt notice to Rakesh Kishore. The Supreme Court stated that issuing a contempt notice would give him undue attention, and it would be better if the controversy resolved itself.
