Kolkata: A junior woman doctor was allegedly attacked by two men in West Bengal’s Howrah district. The woman doctor was also threatened with rape. The case pertains to Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay Medical College and Hospital, a senior official said on Tuesday. Police have arrested the accused traffic home guard and his neighbour.
He said the alleged incident took place at the medical college in Uluberia on Monday, after which the victim doctor lodged a complaint with the police. “””The incident took place on Monday afternoon after a pregnant woman from Kharia Mayapur was admitted to the hospital,”” the official said.” During a routine check-up in the evening, junior doctors could not perform a full physical examination due to the patient’s health complications.”
He said the initial investigation revealed that after the test, the patient’s homeguard relative and two other people enquired with the doctor about the patient’s condition. An argument followed and the accused allegedly slapped the woman doctor and slapped her hand. At the same time, there was abuse. The accused also allegedly threatened to rape and warned of consequences if they left the hospital premises. We have arrested both of them and are investigating the matter.
After this incident, the ward master immediately informed the police post located in the hospital premises, which immediately reached the hospital. The victim doctor was then taken to Uluberia police station, where he filed a written complaint. Acting on the complaint, the police detained the accused traffic home guard and another person. He said both were later arrested.
The official further said that the police are scanning the CCTV footage of the hospital and had already spoken to eyewitnesses present in the hospital during the alleged incident.
