Jammu: Five Army soldiers were injured when a vehicle crashed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Wednesday. Officials said five Army soldiers were injured in a road accident in the Gani area of the Mankot sector in Poonch district.
Officials said, “The vehicle was traveling from Dara Dulian in Poonch to Jammu when it skidded off the road around 7:30 am. The injured soldiers were posted at Balnoi Nangi Tekri.” The official said, “They were on leave when the accident occurred. Another vehicle was arranged for their onward journey.” Officials said the police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated further action.
The Army guards the Line of Control (LOC) in Poonch, Rajouri, and parts of Jammu districts, and in Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara in the Valley. The Border Security Force (BSF) guards the International Border (IB) in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts. Jammu and Kashmir has a 740-kilometer-long LoC and a 240-kilometer-long international border.
The Army along the LoC and the BSF along the international border are responsible for checking infiltration, cross-border smuggling, and drone activity along the LoC. Terrorist organizations operating across the border, with the support of Pakistan, have been using drones to drop weapons and ammunition, drugs, and cash across the Indian border to sustain terrorism.
The BSF has deployed specialized anti-drone equipment along the international border to counter the drone threat. Following the suspension of Operation Sindoor, security forces are conducting offensive operations against terrorists, their over-ground workers (OGWs), and supporters in Jammu and Kashmir.
Drug smugglers and dealers are also on the security forces’ radar, as it is believed that the money earned from drug trafficking and hawala money rackets is ultimately used to sustain terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. In their revised strategy, security forces are carrying out operations to destroy the entire ecosystem of terror in Jammu and Kashmir instead of focusing only on eliminating gun-wielding terrorists.
