Bhavnagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday criticized the Congress party’s economic policies. He said that the Congress party ignored India’s potential. Addressing a public rally in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, Prime Minister Modi criticized the license-quota raj before 1991 and the Congress’s emphasis on imports after India’s market opened.
Reiterating his call for self-reliance, PM Modi further said that India must become self-reliant and stand strong before the world. He said that India has no shortage of potential, but after independence, Congress ignored all of India’s potential. The Prime Minister further said that, because of this, even after six to seven decades of independence, India has not achieved the success it deserves.
PM Modi cited two major reasons for this. He said that for a long time, the Congress government kept the country entangled in the license-quota raj, isolating it from the global market. And then, when the era of globalization arrived, the path of imports was adopted.
PM Modi targeted the Congress party over the scams that occurred during the UPA government, saying that their policies prevented India’s true strengths from being revealed. He said that scams worth thousands, lakhs, and crores took place. The policies of Congress governments caused great harm to the youth of the country. These policies prevented India’s true strengths from being revealed. He further stated that the country’s biggest enemy is dependence on other countries.
The Prime Minister said, “Today, India is moving forward with the spirit of ‘Vishwa Bandhu’. We have no major enemy in the world. If we have any enemy, it is our dependence on other countries. This is our biggest enemy, and we must collectively defeat this enemy of India, the enemy of dependence. We must always repeat this.”
He said that to ensure a stable and prosperous future for future generations, India cannot afford significant foreign dependence. He said, “The greater the foreign dependence, the greater the country’s failure. For global peace, stability, and prosperity, the world’s most populous country must become self-reliant.”
The PM said, “If we remain dependent on others, our self-respect will be hurt. We cannot leave the future of our 1.4 billion citizens to others. We cannot leave the country’s resolve for development to others. We cannot put the future of future generations at stake.”
The Prime Minister said that there is only one cure for a hundred problems, and that is a self-reliant India. Prime Minister Modi has been reiterating his call for a self-reliant India. Earlier, in Assam, he emphasized that India is on the path to becoming self-reliant in the energy sector and highlighted the country’s dependence on other countries for crude oil and gas. He said, “We have been dependent on foreign countries for these things. We import huge quantities of crude oil and gas from abroad, and in return, India has to pay lakhs of crores of rupees to other countries every year.”
PM Modi said, “Our money creates jobs abroad. It increases the income of people there. It was necessary to change this situation. That is why India is on the path to becoming self-reliant for its energy needs.” Meanwhile, today, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several development projects worth over ₹34,200 crore at the “Sea to Prosperity” event in Bhavnagar.
