New Delhi: Amidst the buzz about the friendship between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, a major news has shocked Indians today. The H-1B visa, required to work in the US, will now cost a hefty sum.
US President Donald Trump has announced changes to H-1B visa rules, which now require a fee of $100,000, or over 8.8 million rupees. This amount of approximately 9 million rupees could increase the expenses of companies that hire professionals from India to work in the US. According to government data, Indians represented approximately 71 percent of H-1B visa recipients last year.
AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj has raised questions about this move by the US. He said, “About 71% of people working in the US on H-1B visas are from India… Donald Trump has set its price at $100,000, which translates to approximately 9 million rupees, so that no company can easily hire an Indian on an H-1B visa…”
Saurabh Bhardwaj also said that Trump took this decision to prevent Indians from finding work in American companies. Saurabh Bhardwaj sarcastically said that Modi made the country a world leader, after which Trump is sending Indians back from the US so that he can experience the Amrit Kaal.
Trump Increases Fees, What Impact on Indians?
It is certain that the dream of working in America has now become much more expensive. Until now, the annual fee for an H-1B visa used to be between one and eight lakh rupees, which will now increase 10-fold to around 89 to 90 lakh rupees. This could prove to be a major setback.
The H-1B visa rules could have a profound impact on Indians. Following this decision, H-1B visa holders will not be able to directly enter the US as non-immigrant workers. This fee increase will increase costs for companies, making it difficult for Indian professionals to find jobs in the US.
Major blow to the IT sector
Indian professionals in the US are mostly employed in the IT sector, followed by the healthcare sector and other sectors. The US relies heavily on India and China for IT professionals. This move by the US President is being seen as a continuation of his stated commitment to not allow American citizens to lose their jobs at any cost.
