On the auspicious occasion of Bhai Dooj, the doors of the Mother Yamuna Temple at Yamunotri Dham were closed for six months today. Following this, the festive palanquin of Mother Yamuna departed for its winter residence in Kharsali village. Devotees will now be able to visit Mother Yamuna here for six months.
Yamunotri Temple Committee spokesperson Purushottam Uniyal, Secretary Sunil Uniyal, and Treasurer Pradeep Uniyal stated that after special prayers, the doors of the Mother Yamuna Temple were closed for the winter season at 12:30 p.m. Earlier, at around 8 a.m., the palanquin of Yamuna’s brother, Shanidev Maharaj, accompanied by musical instruments, departed for the shrine from Kharsali village.
Upon reaching there, Shanidev Maharaj bathed in the Yamuna River and participated in special prayers during the closing of the doors with his sister Yamuna. The temple doors were then closed. After the closing of the doors, the palanquin of Mother Yamuna departed for her maternal home in Kharsali village.
Now, Mother Ganga will be visible in Mukhba for six months.
Meanwhile, the doors of the Mother Ganga Temple at Gangotri Dham were ritually closed for the winter season at 11:36 am during the Abhijit Muhurta on the Annakut festival. Now, Mother Ganga’s festive palanquin and Bhogamurti will reside in Mukhba village for six months. This year, 758,249 pilgrims have visited the Gangotri Dham
