In Uttarakhand, women employees will now be able to work night shifts (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.). Following a cabinet decision, the Labor Department has issued a notification regarding this. According to the rules, consent must be obtained from each female employee regarding night shift work. If a woman expresses disagreement, she will not be forced to do so.
Employers must provide information regarding the work of female workers to the relevant labor officer and police station in-charge. A panic button (emergency alarm) and adequate GPS-based transportation will be ensured to provide pick-up and drop-off facilities for female workers to their residences. Police helpline numbers, police station numbers, and outpost numbers will be displayed on vehicles and at the workplace.
Facilities to Women Workers
Employers will be required to obtain mandatory police verification of transport drivers and conductors. Employers will ensure safe, secure, and healthy working conditions for female workers so that they do not face any employment-related inconvenience or harm. Employers must provide facilities such as toilets, changing rooms, and drinking water for women workers as per the provisions of the Act.
All provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013, must be implemented. CCTV cameras must be installed at every entry and exit point of shops and establishments. This notification was issued by Secretary Dr. Sridhar Babu Addanki.
