After the intense cold snap in the plains on Saturday, everyone was wondering how it suddenly got so cold without any rain. Meteorologists explained that cold winds from a Western Disturbance, passing through Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, reached the plains of Uttarakhand. This led to a cold day-like situation due to the fog alone.
CS Tomar, Director of the Meteorological Center, said that until now, fog was only observed in some parts of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts. However, on Saturday, the winds accompanying the Western Disturbance carried moisture. This resulted in a drop in temperature. These winds create favorable conditions for rain and snowfall, leading to a rapid decrease in temperature.
This is why there is a possibility of rain in some parts of the state on December 21st. Regarding the lack of rain and snowfall, he explained that due to climate change and changing weather patterns, there has been a lack of rainfall, and rain is essential for snowfall. However, there are chances of rain in Uttarakhand after December 27th.
Cold day-like conditions will prevail today as well.
Due to the continued fog in the plains on Sunday, cold day-like conditions will persist. According to the forecast issued by the Meteorological Center, a yellow alert has been issued for dense fog in Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, Champawat, and Pauri districts. This will result in cold day-like conditions in some parts of these districts.
In addition, there is a possibility of light rain in some areas of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Pithoragarh districts, and snowfall is also expected in areas above 3500 meters. This weather pattern will continue in the state until December 22nd. The weather will remain dry across the state from December 23rd to 26th.
