New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday witnessed a dramatic scene when a lawyer allegedly tried to attack the Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai and threw a shoe at him. The incident took place when the proceedings were going on in the court.
The incident took place while the matters were mentioned before a bench headed by the Chief Justice. As soon as the lawyer reached the stage, the security personnel immediately intervened and took him out of the court room. According to people familiar with the incident, the lawyer has been identified as Rakesh Kishore.
“I will not tolerate the insult of Sanatan” “When the lawyer was being taken away by security personnel, he was heard shouting, “”I will not tolerate the insult of Sanatan.””” There was also a ruckus in the court room for some time. Though the Chief Justice appeared calm and unmoved by this brief uproar in the courtroom, he urged the lawyers in the courtroom to continue the day’s proceedings.
These things don’t affect me “The Chief Justice said, “”Don’t be distracted by all this.” We are not distracted. These things don’t affect me. On September 18, the Chief Justice had said in the backdrop of online criticism regarding his observations in a case related to the reconstruction of the idol of Lord Vishnu that he respects all religions.
Petition for reconstruction of idol of Lord Vishnu dismissed A bench headed by Chief Justice K Vinod Chandran had in September dismissed a plea seeking directions for the reconstruction and re-installation of the seven-foot-tall idol of Lord Vishnu at the Jawari temple under the UNESCO World Heritage Khajuraho temple complex in Madhya Pradesh. The petition was filed by Rakesh Dalal.
Dalal had sought directions to restore the seven-foot-high beheaded idol of Lord Vishnu at the Javari temple, which falls under the Khajuraho memorial group in Madhya Pradesh. The petitioner had argued that the statue was damaged during the Mughal invasions and authorities have failed to restore it despite repeated requests.
‘Every action has the same reaction’ On September 18, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said he had known the Chief Justice for the past 10 years. “Mehta said, “”It is also serious. We knew Newton’s law that every action has an equal reaction…” Now every action has an uneven reaction on social media. Mehta said the Chief Justice has visited all the religious places.
“Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, who was present in the court room, said, “”We suffer every day.” It’s a wild horse, there’s no way to control it.”
Earlier on September 16, the petitioner’s counsel argued before a bench headed by the Chief Justice that the statue’s head was dilapidated and requested the court to intervene and direct its permission to be rebuilt. The bench made it clear to the petitioner’s counsel that it was not inclined to consider his petition as the matter was entirely controversial.
