Kolkata: BJP MP Khagen Murmu was attacked by locals in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri on Monday. BJP MLA Dr. Shankar Ghosh alleged that he was attacked by the mob in Nagarakata and MP from Malda North Khagen Murmu while distributing relief materials.
It is alleged that MP Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh were allegedly pushed by locals when they went to take stock of the situation in the flood-hit Nagarakata area of North Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district. Before being taken to the hospital, Ghosh shared a video of MP Murmu covered in blood on social media and claimed that locals pushed him and vandalised his vehicle in the Nagarakata area. Ghosh, a BJP MLA from Siliguri, said he had to leave immediately after the incident to take the MP from Malda North to the hospital.
Condemning the attack on BJP leaders, Union Minister Sukant Majumdar said the incident shows that there is no such thing as democracy in West Bengal. “He said, “Today, a BJP team led by our state president went there to meet people for relief work…” Mamata Banerjee has created such a situation by bringing Rohingyas from Bangladesh and settling them here. I think this was planned in advance and includes the chief minister, because such a big attack cannot happen without the knowledge of the chief minister. “West Bengal BJP co-in-charge Amit Malviya criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the alleged attack, calling it “TMC’s jungle raj.Malviya shared a video of the alleged attack on X and wrote, “TMC’s jungle raj in Bengal! BJP MP Khagen Murmu, a respected tribal leader and two-time MP from North Malda, was attacked by TMC goons when they were on their way to Nagarakata in Jalpaiguri’s Duars region to help with relief and rescue operations after devastating rains, floods and landslides.
“The BJP leader claimed that party workers were being attacked for doing relief work while Chief Minister Banerjee and the ruling TMC were “missing from the action”.”When Mamata Banerjee is dancing at her Kolkata carnival, the TMC and the state administration are missing from the action,”he wrote in the post.” Those who are actually helping people, BJP leaders and workers, are being attacked for doing relief work. This is TMC’s Bengal, where cruelty prevails and compassion is punished. Several districts of North Bengal have been inundated after torrential rains in the last two days. The two BJP leaders had gone to the flood-affected area to take stock of the situation.
At the same time, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that 23 people have died so far due to floods in North Bengal.
18 people have lost their lives in a devastating landslide in Darjeeling. While more than 40 villagers displaced by the landslide have taken shelter in a relief camp held in a community building in Mirik.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held an emergency virtual meeting and announced that she will visit the disaster-affected areas today. “In another post, the chief minister said, “There was a lot of water flow in the Sankosh river at the same time and the river water was flowing normally from Bhutan and Sikkim.” This caused disasters. We are deeply shocked to learn that we have lost some of our brothers and sisters in the situation caused by heavy rains and river flooding. I express my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased.
