Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a visit to Assam, addressed a public meeting in Guwahati on Saturday. He said that the BJP government is pursuing all-round development in Assam. He stated that the Northeast is our priority; we are dedicated to its development, whereas the Congress party had neglected this region.
PM Modi said, “If anyone deserves the credit for where the BJP has reached today, it goes solely to the BJP workers. We believe in the power of organization. We believe in the power of organization to be the basis for change in national life. Therefore, it is a great privilege to see such a large number of workers connected to the ground.”
He said, “We live by one mantra; we are devoting ourselves to realizing one mantra. That mantra is Bharat Mata ki Jai!”
PM Modi said that since 2014, more than 125 eminent personalities from the Northeast have received Padma awards. This demonstrates the immense potential of Assam and the Northeast. This potential of the Northeast is now a major foundation for a developed India.
He said, “Maa Kamakhya has been very kind to Assam, the people of Assam, the country, and the countrymen. With her blessings, Assam has given many children who defend the nation, advance the country’s independence and culture.”
Referring to the Union Budget, Prime Minister Modi said that the national budget was presented just a few days ago. This is my first visit to Assam and the Northeast after the budget. We are serving the Northeast, which the Congress party has always ignored, with devotion. The Northeast is Ashtalakshmi for us. This year’s budget… will further strengthen the BJP-NDA’s vision for Ashtalakshmi.
He said that during the Congress regime, Assam received only 10,000 crore rupees as tax. Now, under the BJP government, Assam is receiving five times more than under the Congress government. If we consider the last 11 years, Assam has received more than 5.50 lakh crore rupees from the central government for various development projects. The budget has a strong focus on the Northeast. The focus is on making Assam economically self-reliant. This time, Assam is set to receive approximately 50,000 crore rupees as its share of taxes. You will well remember how Assam was left starving during the Congress regime.
PM Modi said that this year’s budget has been implemented to further strengthen the connectivity of the Northeast. As connectivity increases, employment opportunities also increase. Therefore, thousands of crores of rupees have been allocated to Assam for highways and other road projects. The budget announcements will also expand tourism in Assam.
He said, “You may have recently seen the ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ program held in Guwahati. We discussed with students on a cruise on the Brahmaputra River. In the future, such river tourism on the Brahmaputra will be further expanded.”
Referring to the Pulwama attack, Prime Minister Modi said, “Today is the anniversary of the Pulwama attack. I salute the brave sons of Mother India who lost their lives in this attack. I commend the way India has responded to the terrorists after this terrorist attack.” The whole world has seen how India was punished. You have also seen this power of India in Operation Sindoor. But, I want to know from you, did the Congress ever have the courage to take decisions for the country’s welfare? At best, they can make statements. A Congress that refuses to even acknowledge India as a nation… that questions what Mother India is, that avoids even the mention of Mother India’s name, that does not show even the slightest respect for Mother India, can never do any good to India.
PM Modi said that today’s Congress supports every idea… every terrorist… who thinks ill of the country. Those who dream of breaking the country into pieces… those who raise slogans for separating the Northeast from India… have become revered by the Congress.
He said that at the time of independence, the Muslim League partitioned the country. Now, today’s Congress, by becoming the Muslim League-Maoist Congress (MMC), is again engaged in dividing the country. Therefore, you must be wary of the Congress and protect the rights of Assam. The public also needs to be cautioned.
