Chennai: Actor-turned-politician Vijay said that only his party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), has the courage to oppose injustice. He said that in the upcoming assembly elections, the forces of evil and corruption should be scattered by the sound of his whistle (TVK’s election symbol).
Vijay, the leader of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam, made these remarks at the party headquarters in Panaiyur during the celebrations of the party’s third anniversary. He garlanded the statues of Anjalai Ammal, Velu Nachiyar, Kamaraj, Periyar, and Ambedkar and hoisted the party flag.
Following this, he addressed the party functionaries. He discussed the next steps for the assembly elections and the work to be done in each constituency.
‘They are criticizing me, just like they criticized MGR’
Addressing the gathering, Vijay said that in June 1977, MGR spoke on the radio. At that time, he said, “I am shedding tears thinking that such people are sitting in the place where Anna Durai (DMK founder and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu) once sat. That’s when the Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam was started.”
Vijay said that similarly, our people, thinking about the situation in Tamil Nadu after 2017 and 2021, are shedding tears thinking that such people have come to occupy the place where leaders like Kamaraj, Anna, and MGR once sat. He said that TVK was started today to wipe away the tears of the people.
Vijay said that when MGR started his party and won the elections, even then, detractors said that an actor had started a party. Similarly, now many people are criticizing his entry into politics. They ask, MGR had 20 years of political experience working with the DMK… but what experience does Vijay have? We are the only force that can defeat the DMK.
Speaking about a three-way and four-way contest, Vijay said that his party stands on one side as a major force, the DMK-led alliance parties are on another side, and the BJP-led group and others are on yet another side. He said, “Only we, the major force, can defeat the DMK in this.”
Taking a dig at the opposition, Vijay said that they (the opposition) keep saying, “Vijay, come out of your house.” But Vijay is in every house. He said that it seems the opposition is calling out to every Vijay in every house.
Vijay said, “If we are patient, on polling day, every Vijay and Viji from every house will come and stand at the polling booth early in the morning… Only then will everyone understand.” Further speaking about opinion polls, he said, “If you conduct opinion polls house-to-house, street-to-street, and village-to-village, you will see that TVK is present in every house.”
