Dehradun: Voting process for Zila Panchayat and Block Pramukh has started. Counting of votes will also take place this evening. 12 Zila Panchayats of the state will get Zila Panchayat President on Thursday and 89 blocks will get Block Pramukh. Zila Panchayat President election is to be held in six of these districts. It will not be declared in one due to the High Court’s stay. Unopposed election has already been held in the remaining five.
In Chamoli, Zila Panchayat member Jai Prakash Singh Panwar from Dewar Khadora ward and member Suresh Kumar from Kotha ward Gairsain were the first to cast their votes. The State Election Commission has started the voting process for the posts of Zila Panchayat President, Vice President and Block Pramukh from 10 am today, Thursday.
Voting will take place till 3 pm. Voting will take place under the single transferable system, in which votes are cast on priority for all candidates. The candidate with the top priority will be declared the winner.
Ishita Sajwan in Tehri, Ajay Maurya in Udham Singh Nagar, Anand Singh Adhikari in Champawat, Jitendra Prasad in Pithoragarh and Ramesh Chauhan in Uttarkashi have been elected unopposed as there was no candidate against them. However, the result of the Udham Singh Nagar Zila Panchayat Adhyaksh will not be declared due to the High Court’s stay. Voting is going on today for the post of Zila Panchayat Adhyaksh in the remaining six districts Dehradun, Pauri, Bageshwar, Nainital, Almora and Rudraprayag. Counting of votes will start immediately after the voting. The results will be declared today itself.
