These bridges are also closed on special occasions. Especially when there is an election in India or Nepal, the border is closed for a fixed time. The border was also sealed during the Corona period. Apart from this, the borders are closed in case of emergency or tension. Intensive checking is done by the SSB on the border. A large number of people from Nepal come to India for employment. It is worth noting that KP Sharma Oli took power for the third time in Nepal in the year 2024, but as soon as he became the Prime Minister, there was hope of political stability in the country, but due to the ban on social media and the massive protest of the youth (Gen Z) against corruption, KP Sharma Oli was forced to resign from the post of Prime Minister.
Violent protests took place in Nepal on 8 and 9 September 2025. In which at least 19 people were killed and hundreds were injured in police firing. The protesters pelted stones and set fire to the Parliament House, government buildings and the houses of ministers. Not only this, the former PM and the Foreign Minister were beaten up by the mob. Apart from this, Rajyalakshmi Chitrakar, wife of former Prime Minister Jhalnath Khanal, also got caught in the mob’s clutches and was burnt to death.
