Fog and cold wave intensify after snowfall
After a long wait, the effects of light snowfall in the higher reaches of the state were felt in the plains. Dense fog and a cold wave have increased the chill in the plains. The maximum daytime temperature also registered a drop. Visibility was also low in the morning due to the fog. Meteorologists say that this change in weather is due to the active Western Disturbance in the state.
Rivers and streams frozen in Gangotri Dham
There has been no snowfall in Gangotri Dham yet. Despite this, small and large rivers and streams have frozen due to the intense cold. The temperature in Gangotri these days ranges from minus zero degrees to minus 11 to 12 degrees Celsius.
Very little water is flowing in the Bhagirathi River amidst a several-inch-thick layer of frost. Kedarganga, Rishikur Nala, Pagal Nala, and Chirbasa Nala are also completely frozen. In Gangotri, the water supply is being maintained by melting the ice with fire. On the other hand, about 25 sadhus are still meditating here despite the biting cold
