The weather in Pithoragarh district is constantly changing. The sky was overcast yesterday, but Tuesday was clear. However, the high peaks remained covered. The cloud cover in the Himalayan region has intensified the cold in the lower areas as well. People are facing severe cold in the morning and evening. In many places, people are resorting to fires to protect themselves from the cold as evening approaches.
The mountainous region has not seen rain for quite some time. The cloudy skies for the past three to four days had given people hope for rain, but they failed. Due to the lack of moisture in the ground, smoke is visible from forests in many places. Most Himalayan peaks, including Panchachuli, Rajrambha, Nagnidhura, and Dhaulagiri in Nepal, have turned black due to the lack of snow, making them less attractive to tourists.
Deep Pant, manager of the Tourist Rest House in Chaukodi, explained that the impressive view of the Himalayas visible from here is obscured by clouds. However, due to clear weather, the sun is shining brightly during the day. Frost at night has increased the cold in the morning. In the villages along the river banks, including Munsyari, Didihat, Bedinagar, Gangolihat, and Kanalichhina, people are burning wood to warm themselves. The changing weather is also increasing the number of patients suffering from cold, cough, and fever. In view of this, doctors have advised people to protect themselves from the cold and maintain a strict diet.
