The first UCC Day will be celebrated on January 27, 2026. Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli held a video conference with all District Magistrates on Thursday regarding preparations for the event. He directed them to intensify publicity regarding the UCC and expedite marriage registrations.
The Home Secretary urged District Magistrates to raise awareness through various platforms and encourage them to compulsorily register their marriages under the UCC. The first UCC Day will be celebrated on January 27, 2026, with various public awareness programs related to the UCC being organized in all districts. He also sought suggestions from all District Magistrates regarding the UCC Day program outline. The Secretary urged them to re-intensify dissemination of UCC information at the village level after the monsoon season. Instructions were also given to organize special camps for this purpose.
Secretary Bagauli stated that Bageshwar (63%), Champawat (60%), Rudraprayag (58%), Pauri Garhwal (50%), Uttarkashi, and Chamoli (49%) are performing well in terms of marriage registration. He urged other districts to accelerate this process. He also directed to further expedite the marriage registration process through Common Service Centers (CSCs). At the meeting, all District Magistrates reported on the progress of UCC registrations in their respective districts and practical problems. Additional Secretary Home Nivedita Kukreti was also present during the meeting
