Uttarakhand’s rural development and agriculture sector received a New Year’s gift from the central government. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met with Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, following which an amount of ₹1,700 crore was approved for the construction of 184 rural roads in the state. The total length of these roads will be 1,228 kilometers.
This amount will be provided under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), which will strengthen connectivity in mountainous areas. In the meeting, Chief Minister Dhami drew the central government’s attention to the significant damage caused by the recent natural disaster in the state.
946 roads and 15 bridges were severely damaged in the disaster. Immediate assistance of ₹650 crore is needed for their reconstruction and for the repair of 5,900 damaged houses. He also requested a special budget of ₹200 crore per year for the next five years.
