Dehradun: Questions have often been raised about the education system in Uttarakhand. The main reason for this is that during the monsoon season, the condition of schools especially in the mountainous region becomes very pathetic. During this season, incidents of water dripping in the classroom, falling of school roof or wall have been coming to the fore. Due to which many times children also get injured. In such a situation, in view of the condition of the schools, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has given instructions to get the security audit of all the school buildings in the state done.
According to the information received from the Uttarakhand Education Department, as per the data of the financial year 2024-25, the total number of government schools is 15,873. Out of which the condition of 2,210 schools is dilapidated. Apart from this, 3,691 schools in Uttarakhand do not have boundary walls. Along with this, there is no facility of boys toilet in 547 schools, girls toilet in 361 schools and drinking water in 130 schools. Despite this, the state government has been claiming that the condition of the schools in the state is much better, but the departmental figures themselves seem to be revealing the condition of the schools.
In fact, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence on Friday. During the meeting, the officials were instructed to conduct a security audit of all the school buildings in the state. Children should not be made to sit in dilapidated and unsafe school buildings under any circumstances. Any kind of negligence related to the safety of children will not be tolerated. The Chief Minister directed that wherever the school building is repairable, it should be repaired soon. Where reconstruction is required, its action plan should be made and implemented promptly.
During the high-level meeting, the Chief Minister has also directed to conduct a security audit of all the bridges in the state. He said that the bridges whose condition is deteriorating, their repair and reconstruction work should be done on priority as per the need. It should be ensured that the condition of the bridges is monitored regularly.
The CM said that Triyuginarayan and other places in the state are being developed as wedding destinations. Their proceedings should be expedited. This is an important initiative towards promoting tourism and local employment in the state. The Chief Minister directed that special attention should be paid to quality, facilities and cultural dignity in the development of these destinations. Also, the wedding policy of other states should also be studied so that an effective and attractive wedding destination policy can be developed in Uttarakhand.
