Dehradun:-Uttarakhand’s electric vehicle policy will come in next month if suggestions are received from government departments soon. The Department of Industries has drafted the policy and is now awaiting feedback from the departments.
Some effective suggestions have been incorporated in the draft policy on the initiative of the Setu Commission. According to Rajashekhar Joshi, vice-chairman of the Setu Commission, the EV policy is necessary and time-friendly from the point of view of Uttarakhand economy and environment. Serious efforts are being made by the government to implement it at the earliest.
Four major aspects of the policy
There are four main aspects to the policy. The first is related to manufacturing. That is, electric vehicles will be produced in Uttarakhand. For this, talks have been held with industrial groups associated with the automobile sector, which are manufacturing EVs. Among them, Tata and Mahendra are ready to invest in Uttarakhand. The second is related to the commitment of buying EVs. That is, along with the manufacture of electric vehicles in the state, there should also be a commitment to its purchase in the government sector. The third aspect is related to the provision of incentives for citizens in the sale of electric vehicles to be manufactured in the state. The fourth aspect is the charging installation for EVs and which will be ready throughout the state.
The policy has been drafted after much deliberation and study. Entrepreneurs associated with the automobile sector have also been communicated in this regard. With their suggestions, the policy has been made attractive, effective and forward-looking. Now there is an internal discussion with the departments about the policy. The fleet of government vehicles will also include EVs. Therefore, the opinion of the departments is very important in this. We are hoping that the discussion about the policy from the departments will be completed soon. – Rajashekhar Joshi, Vice President, Setu Commission
