Kolkata: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Sunday that comparing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) or trying to understand it from a political perspective often leads to misunderstandings.
Addressing an event organized in Kolkata as part of the RSS centenary celebrations, Bhagwat said it would be wrong to view the RSS merely as another service organization. He said, “If you want to understand the ‘Sangh’, comparisons will only lead to misunderstandings. If you consider the ‘Sangh’ as just another service organization, you will be mistaken.”
Bhagwat also cautioned against associating the RSS solely with the BJP. Bhagwat said, “Many people understand the ‘Sangh’ from the BJP’s perspective, which is a very big mistake.”
He claimed that some people spread “falsehoods and outright lies” about the Sangh. “As the Sangh grows, some people fear that their vested interests will be jeopardized.”
He said, “Many people know the name of the Sangh, but not its work, which leads to misunderstandings. We don’t want to force anyone to accept the Sangh. People are free to form their own opinions, but those opinions should be based on facts, not imagination or secondary sources.”
Bhagwat said the Sangh has no enemies, but there are some people “whose petty self-serving interests” will be threatened as the organization grows. He said that a person has the right to form an opinion about the RSS, but it should be based on reality, not on “stories and information from secondary sources.”
Bhagwat said, “To bring the reality before the people, lecture and interaction sessions have been organized in four cities across the country.”
He said the RSS has no political agenda, and the Sangh works for the betterment and security of Hindu society. He said the country will once again become a ‘Vishwaguru’ (world leader), and “it is the duty of the Sangh to prepare society for this purpose.” The RSS is holding such sessions in Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru as part of its centenary celebrations.
