Haldwani: A major accident took place while taking bath in Gaula river under Lalkuan police station area of Nainital district. Two students died due to drowning in the river. After getting the information, the police and the team of divers reached the spot and recovered the bodies of both the students from the river after about 14 hours.
According to the information, 15-year-old Ankit Bhauryal and 15-year-old Krish Danu, both friends of Bakuliya village of Motahaldu, went to take bath in Gaula river on Tuesday evening to escape the humidity and heat. When both of them did not return till late evening, the family got worried. After this, the people of the area including the nearby villagers started looking for them. Despite searching all night, they could not be found anywhere. After this, a search operation was conducted again on Wednesday.
During this, the clothes of both were found on the banks of Gaula river. Due to which the suspicion of the children drowning in the river deepened. After this, divers of the village itself were called. After hours of search, first the body of one child was found in the river, then the body of the second child was also recovered. The news of the death of both the children by drowning together has created a wave of mourning in the entire area. Both the families are in a state of panic. According to the villagers, Ankit was a student of class 9 and Krish was a student of class 10. Both of them studied in a private school in Motahaldu.
Avoid going into rivers and streams: ADM Nainital Shailendra Singh Negi said that the police has taken the bodies of both the children into custody and sent them for postmortem. The Revenue Department and the Police team are investigating the entire matter. He said that people are being repeatedly requested not to go to the banks of rivers and streams during the rainy season. Despite that, people are risking their lives by bathing in the river. In such a situation, people should avoid bathing in rivers and streams.
Depth of the river increased due to mining: It is being told that at the place where the incident took place, mining is done from the river during the mining season and the depth increases due to mining. It is being speculated that after one child drowned, the other child must have tried to save him. Due to which both of them died. At present the police is investigating the whole matter. The police is appealing to the people not to go bathing in rivers and drains during the rains.
