New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that he prevented the India-Pakistan conflict by using a supposed trade deal with the US. Congress on Monday targeted the Narendra Modi government after US President Donald Trump reiterated this claim.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh wrote in a post on social media,
“There was a time when we were told that India would host the Quad Summit (US, Japan, Australia, and India) in November 2025. That is no longer happening. There was a time when we were told that India would be among the first countries to sign a trade deal with the US. That supposed deal has become a difficult test, while exports to the US have declined, leading to the loss of livelihoods here.”
The Congress leader said that President Trump has reiterated for the 57th time why and how Operation Sindoor was suddenly and unexpectedly halted. The moratorium was first announced in Washington, not New Delhi.
Jairam Ramesh also shared a video of Trump in which he reiterated his claim that he prevented the India-Pakistan military conflict through trade.
US President’s Claim:
In an interview with an American television network, Trump said, “If it weren’t for tariffs and trade, I wouldn’t have been able to do these deals. For example, India trades a lot with us. They were about to have a nuclear war with Pakistan. The Pakistani Prime Minister stood up one day and said that if Donald Trump hadn’t gotten involved, millions of people would be dead right now.”
Trump said, “Planes were shot down everywhere… It was going to be a bad war, and I told them both, ‘If you guys don’t make a deal quickly, you won’t be able to do any trade with the US, and they do a lot of trade with the US, and they were both great leaders, and they made a deal and stopped the war. It would have been a nuclear war.”
