Ramnagar: A shocking and sad news has come from Corbett Tiger Reserve. A male tiger killed two innocent cubs of a tigress in the dense forests of Kalagarh range of Corbett Tiger Reserve. During patrolling, the forest department team found the mutilated bodies of both the cubs in the magazine source area of the forest, whose condition was very bad.
The forest department team was on regular patrol in Lakkadghat beat, compartment number one of Kalagarh range. Then they saw the dead body of a tiger cub near the magazine source area. The body of the cub was in a very rotten state. All its organs – teeth, nails, skin and bones – were found scattered in the bushes. When the team went further in the area, another dead body was also recovered at the other end of the same source. Whose condition was also the same as the first one.
The forest personnel present on the spot immediately informed the higher officials about this. After which, intensive patrolling and combing operations were carried out in the area around the incident site. The entire area was thoroughly searched, but no suspicious human activity or presence of hunters was found. However, fresh footprints and signs of presence of an adult tiger were found around the incident site. Due to which, prima facie, it is believed that this attack has been carried out by a male tiger. This behavior can be a part of the struggle for tiger territory. In which the male tiger often kills the potential successors (i.e. cubs) of another male. According to wildlife experts, this incident is certainly unfortunate but is also in accordance with the laws of nature. Often, the male tiger kills the cubs of an already existing tigress to assert authority over a territory, so that the tigress can conceive again and become his mate.
