Dehradun: Monsoon havoc continues in Uttarakhand. Cases of road damage are also coming to the fore along with incidents of landslides in the rain. So far, more than half a dozen roads have been damaged in Dehradun city alone. There are potholes at many places on these roads. According to the information received from the Public Works Department, the roads of the Provincial Public Works Department under Dehradun city alone have suffered damage worth more than 7 crores.
Canal Road of Dehradun city, Dhoran IT Park Marg, Subhash Road, Dehradun-Mussoorie Road, Kingreag to Library Chowk Mussoorie, Raipur Road, these are some of the roads where the roads have suffered more damage. The work of compensating the damage is going on continuously here.
On this whole matter, Jitendra Kumar Tripathi, Executive Engineer of Dehradun Provincial Section, says that JCBs and other machines were deployed on all sensitive routes even before the rains started. The work of repairing the damaged roads is also going on continuously.
Every road will be sparkling before 31 October: Jitendra Kumar Tripathi said that due to rain in the state, potholes are being formed at many places. A mobile team has been formed by the Public Works Department to monitor these potholes. Wherever potholes are being formed in the urban area, as soon as time is available during the day and the sun shines, the work of filling these potholes is being done.
He said that as soon as there is a slight change in the rainy season and the rain reduces, then definitely the work of repairing the roads and potholes of all the areas will be started on a war footing. He said that tenders have already been prepared for this process. As soon as the weather clears, the tender will be allotted and the work will be completed before 31 October.
Rispana Bindal Elevated stuck in compensation: On the other hand, the elevated project being built over Bindal and Rispana rivers to reduce traffic in Dehradun city is also hanging in the balance. According to Jitendra Kumar Tripathi, Executive Engineer of Public Works Department, marking of this project has been done.
At present, the matter is stuck on joint survey. Because many categories of land are coming under the purview of this project. Some people have permanent houses, while some people live on lease. Some people have papers of their land, while some people do not have land papers. He told that on both sides of Rispana and Bindal rivers, there are mostly slums, which live here in a disorganized manner. Certainly, bringing them into a systematic structure is a big challenge.
The Public Works Department official says that at present the team of Revenue Department, Development Authority, Municipal Corporation and Forest Department are all doing a joint survey together. In this way, the biggest challenge in this project is to remove people from the spot and give them compensation. Exercises are going on for this. Only after the completion of this exercise can the work on the project move forward. The officer says that due to the rains, the project has definitely got delayed a little from its deadline. But in the coming days, as soon as the process of land acquisition is completed, this work will move forward at a very fast pace.
