Dehradun: The World Disaster Conference is once again being held in Uttarakhand. This time, the event is dedicated to the successful rescue operation at the Silchiara Tunnel. The World Disaster Conference will be held at the Innovation Center in Dehradun from November 28th.
UCOST Director General, Prof. Durgesh Pant, provided information about the 20th Uttarakhand State Science and Technology Conference (USSTC 2025) to be held in Dehradun. He informed that the Uttarakhand State Science and Technology Council (UCOST) will organize the World Disaster Management Summit (WSDM 2025) and the 20th Uttarakhand State Science and Technology Conference (USSTC 2025) at Graphic Era University from November 28th to 30th, 2025. These events will significantly strengthen India’s scientific system and disaster management by bringing together global experts, policymakers, scientific institutions, innovators, youth leadership, disaster response agencies, and community representatives, keeping in mind the ecological sensitivity of the Himalayan region.
Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Government of India, will be the chief guest at the inaugural session of the World Disaster Management Summit (WSDM 2025). Chief Minister CM Dhami will also be present. The conference will promote disaster management preparedness, climate change, and community-based scientific awareness in the state. The conference will also discuss India’s science-based disaster management and space-based technology.
Durgesh Pant stated that several prestigious awards will be introduced at the Science and Technology Summit, including the Uttarakhand Science Education Promotion Award, the Bhagirath Award, and the Uttarakhand Young Women Scientist Award. These awards recognize outstanding contributions in science communication, disaster management, climate, community engagement, and women’s scientific innovations, and UCOST’s commitment to fostering scientific talent and promoting grassroots scientific engagement.
In addition, Uttarakhand’s first state-level Science and Technology Premier League 2025 will be held on this occasion. Its objective is to spread science awareness, climate literacy, innovation, and disaster preparedness to every village in the state. Teams from all 13 districts will participate in scientific quizzes, innovation exhibitions, disaster response challenges, and climate problem-solving competitions. This initiative will significantly contribute to the development of child scientists and climate watchdogs in the state.
The conference will feature over 20 workshops, interactive forums, and special events. An innovation and technology exhibition will also be held, with participation from state and central governments, startups, scientific institutions, and innovators showcasing early warning systems, space-based monitoring, artificial intelligence-based climate analysis, and community-level disaster technologies. Practical demonstrations and rescue training will also be organised by NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, BRO, NIM, NCC, NSS and SSB.
