New Delhi: Currently, the Vande Bharat train service in Jammu and Kashmir operates only between Katra and Srinagar. This service may soon be extended to Jammu, increasing the convenience of travelers traveling to the Kashmir Valley.
According to media reports, the Vande Bharat train will soon run between Jammu and Srinagar. Railway sources have stated that preparations are in the final stages, and operations may begin soon.
According to reports, the launch of the Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat train was delayed due to ongoing construction work at the Jammu railway station. Infrastructure upgrades and expansion were underway to accommodate increased passenger traffic and advanced train operations. The construction work is nearing completion. Railway officials are preparing to launch the train service without further delay.
The extension of the Vande Bharat train service to Jammu will provide travelers traveling to Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley with a fast and comfortable travel option. Currently, passengers catching trains from Jammu must rely on other modes of transport to reach Katra and then complete their journey by train.
The Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express (Train 26401) currently runs via Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK), Reasi (REAI), Banihal (BAHL), and Srinagar (SINA). This semi-high-speed train covers the 191 km distance between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar in less than three hours. It is equipped with anti-freeze technology and passes over the Chenab Bridge.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated this train service on June 6, 2025. This railway Vande Bharat train has eight coaches, but due to increasing passenger demand, the Railways is planning to increase this number to 20. The increased seating capacity will make it easier for passengers to secure confirmed tickets, especially during peak tourist seasons and holidays.
