RTOs and their subordinate officers and employees will soon be seen in a different uniform. For the first time, a draft of the rules for changing the uniform of officers and employees associated with the enforcement wing of the Transport Department has been released. It is expected to be presented to the Cabinet soon.
Transport Secretary Brijesh Kumar Sant had released the draft of the Uttarakhand Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Rules, 2025, on which suggestions are being accepted until January 15th. According to the draft, Rule 229 of the Uttarakhand Motor Vehicles Rules, 2011 will be amended. Under this amendment, the names of various posts, their ranks, and the prescribed summer and winter uniforms have been defined. This amendment, once implemented, will help bring uniformity in the identification, rank, and discipline of the enforcement personnel of the Transport Department.
The uniform will include a cap with the Uttarakhand Transport monogram. There will be a khaki shirt and police-pattern trousers. Shoulder badges, shoulder straps, and rank insignia (stars, V-shaped straps) will be included. A cross belt (black or brown, according to rank) will be mandatory. Shoes and socks (black or brown, according to rank) and a nameplate will also be mandatory. For senior positions, provisions have also been made for yellow metal stars, the Ashoka emblem, and special badges.
The following changes will be made to the designations:
– The designation of Assistant Divisional Transport Officer (Enforcement) will be changed to Divisional Transport Officer (Enforcement).
– The designation of Enforcement Supervisor will be replaced with Transport Assistant Inspector.
– The term Enforcement Constable will be replaced with Transport Constable.
– A new post, Transport Sub-Inspector, has also been added to the rules.
Separate uniforms for summer and winter:The summer uniform will be light khaki, while the winter uniform will consist of a full-sleeved Angola shirt, woolen socks, and a khaki jacket. However, the cap, whistle, badge, cross belt, and nameplate will remain the same for both seasons
