The Governor has returned the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) amendment bill. The department will now review it again. The government had passed this amendment bill in the assembly session in Gairsain and sent it to the Governor’s office. The bill contained a provision for punishment for marriage below the prescribed age in Section 4, which was mentioned twice. The Governor’s office objected to this and returned the bill.
Now, the Home Department will address the objection and bring the ordinance back to the assembly. Earlier, the Governor’s office had also returned the anti-conversion bill to the government. The Religious Affairs Department will also address all the shortcomings and bring a revised bill.
