Teachers are furious over delays in promotions and transfers. On Wednesday, teachers from across the state affiliated with the Rajkiya Shikshak Sangh (State Teachers’ Union) took to the streets of Dehradun to protest. They marched from the Parade Ground to the Chief Minister’s residence, but police prevented them from proceeding beyond the Hathibarkala police post. They then sat on a sit-in protest. After talks with the Chief Minister late in the evening, the teachers ended their protest.
Teachers gathered at the Parade Ground from across the state, raising slogans for their pending demands, proceeded from Parade Ground via Kanak Chowk to Bahl Chowk. Meanwhile, a delegation of teachers was summoned to the Chief Minister’s residence for talks. Following this, the teachers sat on a sit-in protest on the Eslehall road near Bahl Chowk. After protesting for an hour and a half, the teachers marched to the Chief Minister’s residence via Rajpur Road, but police prevented them from proceeding beyond the Hathibarkala police post.

Meanwhile, the delegation of teachers was once again summoned to the Chief Minister’s residence for talks. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami assured teachers of a meeting chaired by the Personnel Secretary within a week to address their demands. Following this, the teachers ended their protest. Prior to this, teachers had clashed with the police at various locations.
Those marching to the Chief Minister’s residence included State President of the State Teachers’ Union Ram Singh Chauhan, General Secretary Ramesh Painyuli, Vice President Rajkumar Chaudhary, Garhwal Division President Shyam Singh Sariyal, Divisional Minister Hemant Painyuli, Kumaon Division President Gokul Martolia, Divisional Minister Dr. Ravi Shankar Gusai, Alok Rauthan, Praveen Rawal, Pranay Bahuguna, Dr. Sohan Majila, Nagendra Purohit, Arjun Panwar, and others.

Many teachers failed to reach Dehradun
Dehradun. Teachers from various districts traveling to Dehradun for the CM’s residence were stopped by police at the district border. According to the teachers’ union, many teachers were unable to reach Dehradun due to this.
Discussions were held with the Chief Minister on these demands:
– The direct recruitment of principals should be cancelled
– The promotion list of teachers should be released
– Free textbooks should be provided to students
– Teachers should be granted 13 days of maternity and paternity leave
– Teachers should be transferred
– Teachers should be exempted from BLO duty
– One pay increase should be given on the selection and promotion pay scales
– The selection and promotion pay scales should be approved
– The selection and promotion pay scales should be given by adding the previous service of promoted teachers.
