From Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, and even in Kumaon, Chhath was celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm. The 36-hour Nirjala fast began the previous day.
Today, devotees went to the Chhath ghats, stood in flowing water sources, and offered evening prayers to Lord Bhaskar as he set. During this time, devotees prayed for the happiness and prosperity of their families. Crowds thronged the ghats from the mountains to the plains.
In this great festival of Sanatan Dharma, the setting sun is also worshipped with full rituals.
Kharna is performed after sunset on the fifth day of the Shukla Paksha of the Kartik month.
Today, devotees sang traditional songs like “Kaanch Hi Bamboo Ke Bahangi Bahangi Lachakt Jaye” as they headed towards the Chhath Ghats.
