After a long wait, the second trial of green cess collection in the state has finally been successful. Green cess was deducted from some vehicles from other states through the ANPR cameras located at the Narsan border in Haridwar. However, due to the slow process, the ITDA is currently updating the system.
The provision for collecting a fixed amount as green cess from vehicles coming from other states is now about to be implemented across the state. The Transport Department has installed 37 Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras in the state, 15 of which are located at the state’s entry points. Green cess will be collected from vehicles from other states entering the state through all of these cameras.
Currently, the camera at the Narsan checkpost in Haridwar has started sending data, and the green cess has been deducted from some vehicles through their Fastag accounts based on their number plates. According to the Transport Headquarters, the camera sends videos of the vehicles to the ITDA data center.
After the vehicles are sorted from this video, the green cess is deducted based on the number plates of the vehicles from other states. When this process was started at the Narsan checkpost, some technical difficulties arose. The process is slow, due to which the green cess is not being deducted from all vehicles. Therefore, a team of ITDA experts is working on upgrading the system.
