The road to Gangotri will open in the next three days but the pilgrimage will remain closed for now. The road has been closed for the last nine days due to landslides and land subsidence in Dabrani, Songad, Loharinag, Harshil and Dharali. According to the Secretary of the Public Works Department, Pankaj Pandey, efforts are being made to open the closed roads day and night in collaboration with the Border Roads Organisation.
Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya, who is camped in Dharali, says that it will take three to four more days to open the road to Gangotri. After the Dharali disaster, the Uttarkashi-Gangotri National Highway is closed due to landslides and roads being washed away. Due to which there are a lot of difficulties in relief and rescue work in Dharali. The road is open in Netala but debris is continuously coming here. Whereas due to the closure of the road in Dabrani, Songad, Loharinag, Harshil and Dharali, essential items of daily use are being delivered to the disaster affected by helicopter.
According to District Magistrate Prashant Arya, the Border Roads Organisation has informed that vehicular movement will resume in the next few days to Gangotri. In view of the bad condition of the roads, travel will not be allowed for a few days.

Dharali disaster: Where will the debris be taken if removed
After the disaster in Dharali, the search for the missing people is going on for the last nine days. People buried under the debris are being traced with the help of dog squad, thermal camera and GPS. The relief and rescue team has not got much success in this so far. Only one body has been found from the debris so far. SDRF IG Arun Mohan Joshi says that dog squads and other modern equipment are being used to locate people buried under the debris wherever possible.
