President Draupadi Murmu is expected to inaugurate the horse riding arena and foot overbridge at Rashtrapati Niketan during her visit to Dehradun. On Monday, Dr. Rakesh Gupta, Additional Secretary, President’s Secretariat, reviewed preparations for her proposed visit.
During the meeting, Dr. Gupta directed that the Rashtrapati Park and other ongoing projects be completed within the stipulated time. Several officials, including District Magistrate Savin Bansal, Director General of Information Banshidhar Tiwari, SSP Ajay Singh, and Member of Parliament Namami Bansal, attended the meeting. Several ongoing projects were discussed in detail.
The Rashtrapati Park is taking shape on 132 acres of land in front of Rashtrapati Niketan. It is expected to be completed by next year. Established as a major center for public participation, culture, and civic pride, the park will feature theme-based flower and botanical gardens, a butterfly house and aviary, and a picturesque lake.
The country’s second-tallest national flagpole will be a key feature of the park’s identity. The park will also feature walking and cycling tracks, an open-air theatre with a capacity of over 800 people for cultural activities, a public library, and a food plaza.
A new attraction will be the Horse Riding Arena, featuring six horses.
The Arena is part of the Rashtrapati Niketan complex where the horses of the President’s Bodyguard (PBG) are kept. It was established in 1838 as a summer camp for the horses of the Governor General’s Bodyguard. The public will be able to observe up-close the riding and care of the President’s Bodyguard horses. Six horses of the President’s Bodyguard are being brought from Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. A footbridge based on mountain architecture is also being constructed. The 32-meter-long, four-meter-wide footbridge was completed in just six months. Kumar Samaresh, Public Relations Officer of the President’s Secretariat, stated that President Draupadi Murmu is expected to inaugurate it.
