New Delhi: Shoaib, an accused in the Delhi bomb blast case, was produced before the Patiala House Court on Friday, where the special NIA court ordered an extension of his custody for another 10 days. The accused was presented before the special NIA court amid tight security arrangements. Principal District and Sessions Judge (Special NIA Judge) Anju Bajaj Chandna extended his custody after his previous 10-day remand expired today. The entire proceedings took place in a closed courtroom.
Shoaib accused of harboring Umar: According to the hearing in the NIA’s special court, accused Shoaib, a resident of Faridabad, sheltered the main terrorist Umar Un Nabi just before the blast and also provided him with logistical support. Based on this, the agency arrested him and his interrogation is ongoing. The NIA is expected to question him in the coming days about his role in this network, his contacts, and funding sources. The NIA stated, “This development follows the earlier arrest of six key associates of Umar during the investigation of the case.”
Working in collaboration with the Delhi Police, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Haryana Police, Uttar Pradesh Police, and various sister agencies, the NIA is continuing its investigation in various states.
The anti-terror agency was initially assigned the investigation: The State Investigation Agency (SIA) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted raids at several locations in Srinagar and Ganderbal. The operation began on Friday morning. The house of Tufail Bhat in Diyarwani, Batmalu, was also searched. Tufail was arrested last month in connection with a module that security agencies describe as a “white-collar terrorist network.” This network is said to include doctors, professionals, and educated individuals who were radicalized.
Accused Aamir Rashid Ali’s custody extended for 7 more days Extension: Recently, in another case related to this matter, the custody of prime accused Aamir Rashid Ali was extended by seven days. He is the registered owner of the car used by the suicide bomber. The NIA claims that Aamir and Umar Nabi were involved in the operation of the entire terrorist module and recruitment drive.
Arrests made in Pulwama and Anantnag on November 20: On November 20, the agency arrested Dr. Muzammil Shakeel Ganai from Pulwama (Jammu and Kashmir), Dr. Adeel Ahmed Rather from Anantnag (Jammu and Kashmir), Dr. Shaheen Saeed from Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), and Mufti Irfan Ahmed Wagay from Shopian (Jammu and Kashmir). The NIA detained them in Srinagar on the basis of a production order from the District Sessions Judge in Patiala House Court.
The NIA has questioned 73 witnesses so far: The NIA took over the case from the Delhi Police and has launched a major search operation.
