The state government will provide grants of up to four crore rupees for apple cold storage facilities in the state. Cooperative societies will receive grants of up to five crore sixty lakh rupees for the same purpose. The government also plans to construct ropeways. Proper storage facilities and the construction of ropeways in various locations will enable farmers to get fair prices for their produce.
The state’s climate is favorable for apple cultivation. Apples are grown in Uttarkashi, Chakrata in Dehradun, Chamoli, Tehri, Almora, and Nainital districts. However, due to inadequate storage facilities and delays in transportation, farmers are not receiving fair prices for their apples.
This often forces them to sell their produce at distress prices. Delays in transportation also lead to a decline in the quality of the apples. Considering this, the government has formulated a plan for the post-harvest management of apples.
