A four-member committee headed by the Director of Secondary Education will investigate the cases of misuse of disability certificates in the School Education Department. The committee will examine teachers’ disability certificates on a case-by-case basis and submit a report to the government.
Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat stated that an investigation has been initiated against teachers who misused disability certificates. Following a public interest litigation in the High Court, the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities provided a list of 52 teachers deemed ineligible by the State Medical Council for investigation. This list included two headmasters, 21 lecturers, and 29 assistant teachers (LTs). Show-cause notices were issued to all these teachers at the departmental level.
Twenty lecturers and nine assistant teachers have submitted their responses to the department. The Education Minister stated that action will be taken against teachers and non-teaching staff who misused reservations. To this end, the certificates of other staff will also be examined separately at the departmental level.
He stated that the provision for reservation for persons with disabilities in state services is in effect, and it applies equally to appointments and promotions in the School Education Department. The department has consistently provided reservations for persons with disabilities in appointments and promotions made from time to time, in accordance with various rules.
