Teachers have opposed teaching Gita verses to children in prayer meetings. SC, ST Teachers Association has written a letter to the Director of Education in this matter. The letter states that this is a religious text. According to the Constitution, religious education cannot be provided in educational institutions.
Teachers Association President Sanjay Kumar Tamta said, Article 28(1) of the Indian Constitution clearly states that religious education cannot be provided in educational institutions run fully or partially by government funds. This system has been made to maintain the secularism of the country and the spirit of equal respect for all religions.
Strong opposition to the instruction
The instruction to increase the verses of Gita in prayer meetings violates the provision given in the Constitution. Which weakens the principle of secular education in government schools. Students of different religions, castes and communities are studying in government schools. Compulsory imposition of verses from a particular religious text can give rise to feelings of discomfort and discrimination among followers of other religions and communities, which is contrary to the objectives of social harmony and inclusive education.
The SC-ST Teachers Association strongly opposes this directive. Such a directive should be withdrawn. The association believes that the purpose of education is to promote scientific outlook and inclusive values, and not to promote any particular religious text
