Amidst a massive campaign being launched by the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) to maintain the greenery and beautification of Dehradun, an incident of uprooting of flowers planted on the divider on Sahastradhara Road has come to light. The authority has taken this incident seriously, terming it a disservice to the city’s beauty and public property. The MDDA has clarified that strict action will be taken against anti-social elements involved in such activities.
Under the guidance of the authority’s Vice Chairman, Banshidhar Tiwari, large-scale tree plantation and planting of ornamental flowers and plants is being carried out on major roads, intersections, and dividers in Dehradun. Aiming to make the city clean, green, and attractive, the MDDA is running a special campaign under which the dividers on Sahastradhara Road, Rajpur Road, and other important roads have been decorated with colorful seasonal flowers and ornamental plants. This initiative has significantly enhanced the city’s beauty and provided a pleasant environment for pedestrians.
The MDDA team conducts regular on-site inspections to ensure the safety and care of these plants. During a recent inspection on Sahastradhara Road, it was discovered that several flowers and plants planted on the divider had been uprooted by some anti-social elements. The authority’s team also collected photographs from the scene, which clearly indicate that the plants were deliberately damaged.
According to the authority, such incidents not only harm the city’s greenery and beauty but also adversely impact development projects being undertaken with government resources. Damaging these efforts funded by public funds is a serious matter that cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.
The MDDA has clarified that strict action will be taken against those who damage public property and beautification projects in the city. In such cases, the culprits will be identified and legal action will be taken against them as per the law. The authority is also strengthening inspections and monitoring in various areas of the city to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
The Authority has also appealed to the city residents to cooperate with the administration in maintaining the greenery and beauty of Dehradun. If anyone is seen damaging or uprooting trees planted in public places, they should immediately report it to the Authority or the administration so that necessary action can be taken in time.
The MDDA believes that Dehradun is identified by its natural beauty and greenery. Preserving and maintaining this greenery is the shared responsibility of not only the administration but also every citizen. To this end, the Authority is continuously making efforts to keep the city clean, green, and organized.
