The government’s strict action against illegal mining in the state has led to a fourfold increase in revenue. The government is now receiving an annual revenue of Rs 1200 crore from mining. This has given a boost to public welfare schemes.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made the mining allocation and transportation process transparent and cracked down on illegal mining, resulting in an increase in annual mining revenue from Rs 300 crore to Rs 1200 crore in less than a year and a half.
The state government implemented a new mining policy in September 2024. The new policy introduced several new measures, including the allocation of mining lots through e-auctions and satellite monitoring of mining activities. Chief Minister Dhami also instructed the police and administration to take strict action against illegal mining. The positive results of these measures are now becoming evident.
Special assistance of Rs 200 crore sanctioned
Before September 2024, the state received only about Rs 300 crore in annual revenue from mining, but this revenue has now crossed Rs 1200 crore. Furthermore, Uttarakhand has secured the second position nationwide for implementing mining reforms, as a result of which the central government has sanctioned special assistance of Rs 200 crore to Uttarakhand under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme for the financial year 2025-26.
Common people require mining materials for residential purposes and various development projects. In this regard, the state government has ensured that mining is conducted in accordance with environmental standards. A transparent system has also been developed for this purpose. The positive results of these efforts are now visible, leading to a significant increase in revenue, which is being used to fund public welfare schemes
