Star rating scheme has been implemented for the mine areas of the state. Through this, lease holders doing excellent work in environmental and forest protection measures will be rewarded. This scheme will be applicable to small, minor mineral mines (except RBM). In this, lease holders will have to apply by filling self-assessment form.
The Department of Geology and Mining has also prepared guidelines for filling this form. Director of Geology and Mining Department Rajpal Legha said that standards have been set for giving them star rating. This includes environment and water conservation, health safety and welfare of workers, statutory compliance, systematic and sustainable mining.
Star rating will give information about the condition of the mines. Where there is a deficiency, they will also be motivated to improve. Lease holders will send information on the set standards, they will also be tested by a third party. This system has been implemented. The list of five rated mines that will be prepared will be uploaded on the website of the Department of Geology and Mining before 30 November every year.
