Srinagar: In a sustained crackdown on banned organisations, Srinagar police on Monday carried out a coordinated search operation at several locations linked to persons allegedly associated with the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JEI) and the Hurriyat Conference.
According to the police, Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat alias Goga Shahib or Mushtaqul Islam, a resident of Kashi Mohalla, Batmaloo, Ashraf Sehrai, a resident of Baghat. The raids were carried out at Mehrajuddin Kalwal alias Raj Kalwal resident Rainawari Kalwal Mohalla, A/P Hamza Colony, Kenihama (currently in NIA custody) besides Zamir Ahmed Sheikh resident of Gulshan Nagar, Naugam. Police said the search was conducted strictly in accordance with legal procedures. During the raids, several items were seized, including literature and photographs allegedly linked to banned separatist organisations. Officials said the operations were part of a broader effort to dismantle the terror and separatist apparatus in the Valley, which would target its pro-network and supporters.
“These actions are part of a broader campaign aimed at disrupting the terrorism and separatist ecosystem in the Valley, targeting its support structure and network,”” the police spokesman said.” The spokesperson said the Srinagar Police is committed to maintaining peace and public order and action will continue against individuals and groups found to be involved in illegal or anti-national activities.
Notably, prominent Hurriyat leader and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat president Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai passed away on May 5, 2021 at a hospital in Jammu, where he was admitted after some health complications. He was 80 years old.
